Passive House is a building design and construction standard that focuses on creating highly energy-efficient buildings with a comfortable indoor environment. The goal of a Passive House is to reduce the building's energy consumption by up to 90% compared to a conventional building.
This is achieved through a combination of factors such as airtight and thermal bridge free construction, high-performance windows and doors, insulation, and heat recovery ventilation systems. The building is designed to capture and retain solar heat, minimising the need for additional heating.
Passive Houses require very little energy for heating and cooling, resulting in lower energy bills and a reduced carbon footprint. The standard is rigorous and requires a certification process to ensure that buildings meet the required criteria.
